Hi everyone,
I've been dealing with hair loss for a while now and my doctor recommended trying Propecia (Eczane version). I'm curious about how effective it is, any side effects to be aware of, and if anyone else has tried this? Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

Hi BaldButBeautiful,
Thanks for posting! Propecia (Eczane version) is indeed a widely used treatment for male pattern baldness. It contains the active ingredient finasteride, which works by blocking DHT, a hormone responsible for hair loss in genetically susceptible individuals.
Effectiveness: Studies show that it can be very effective; about 80% of users experience some level of hair growth or stopping further hair loss after three to six months of use.
Side Effects: While most men tolerate it well, there are potential side effects. These may include erectile dysfunction, decreased libido (sex drive), and occasionally, a decrease in sperm count. However, these issues typically resolve once you stop taking the medication.
It's important to discuss your expectations and concerns with your healthcare provider before starting any new treatment regimen.

Thanks DrHairDoc for such a detailed response! I was wondering if it makes sense to use this alongside minoxidil, or should I stick to just one? Also, do you have any tips on how to manage the cost of Propecia (Eczane version)? It seems expensive.

Hi BaldButBeautiful,
Using Propecia and minoxidil together can actually be quite effective. Minoxidil is a topical solution that stimulates hair growth, while finasteride blocks DHT production internally. Combining the two may help you achieve better results than using either alone.
Regarding cost management:
- Generic Brands: Consider generic versions of Propecia (like Eczane), which are often less expensive.
- Insurance Coverage: Check with your insurance provider to see if they cover any portion of the medication.
- Bulk Purchases: Sometimes buying larger quantities or online can be more cost-effective, but always ensure you're purchasing from a reputable source.
If you have concerns about affordability, discuss them with your doctor. They might offer additional advice based on your specific situation.
