Forum Thread: Can I Take 5 1mg Propecia?

Posted by CuriousGrowth:

Hi everyone! I've been taking Propecia for the past few months and it seems to be working well. However, I was wondering if anyone knows what would happen if you take more than one tablet at once? Specifically, can you take five 1mg tablets (5 mg total)? Would that just be equivalent to taking a higher dose, or could there be any negative side effects?

Hello CuriousGrowth! While I'm not your personal doctor and this forum isn't a substitute for professional medical advice, I can provide some general information. Propecia is typically prescribed at 1mg per day, which has been clinically tested to be effective and safe for most users.

Taking five times the recommended dose (5 mg) could potentially increase side effects such as erectile dysfunction, decreased libido, or reduced ejaculate volume. Additionally, higher doses haven't necessarily shown more significant hair growth benefits; in fact, studies have not conclusively proven this. Always consult your doctor before altering your dosage.

Thanks for the info, DrMedic8! It sounds like sticking to the recommended 1mg dose is probably best unless my doctor advises otherwise. Do you know of any other common side effects or long-term impacts I should be aware of?

You're welcome, CuriousGrowth! Some people might experience hair loss when they first start taking Propecia (called initial shedding), which is usually temporary and resolves as your body adjusts. Other less common but possible side effects include scalp irritation or skin reactions.

Long-term impacts are still being studied, but the medication has been on the market for quite some time now with generally good results. One important point to note: if you experience any sexual dysfunction while taking Propecia, it's crucial to inform your doctor right away as this could be a sign of an underlying condition that needs attention.

Hey CuriousGrowth, I've been on Propecia for over two years now. The 1mg dose has worked wonders for me without any side effects! Its really important to stick with the recommended dosage unless your doctor advises otherwise. Taking too much can not only cause side effects but also might lead to unnecessary risks and complications.

Thanks, HairHero! I'll definitely keep that in mind. Your experience is reassuring. If anyone has any more tips or advice, please feel free to share!

Absolutely, CuriousGrowth! Remember, consistency and patience are key with Propecia. It can take several months to a year before you see noticeable results. Regular check-ups with your doctor are also important to monitor how the medication is working for you and to address any concerns.

If at any point you feel something isn't right or if you want to adjust your dosage, make sure to talk it over with your healthcare provider first. They can provide personalized advice based on your medical history and current health status.
